Bonsai Tool
Bonsai tree pruning With normal scissors?
I have just bought a pre grown 4 year old tree and it could do with a little trimming here and there
I do intend to get the proper tools but would just like to make one or two cuts now
Can I do that with normal scissors for now??
Hi,
Technically you could, however because regular scissors have a larger cutting angle than bonsai scissors, you run the risk of crushing the cut off segment too much and leaving a dead spot and a further die back area. Also, depending on your tree of course, most pruning is done during spring and summer, but for the most part never during winter since trees need that time to rest and survive the winter (dormancy). If possible, wait till spring and use proper tools. Hope this helps! If you need any bonsai information I recommend you look at this site: www.BonsaiCareBasics.com
Best of luck with your tree!

Why Using The Right Bonsai Tools Is An Important Part of The Growing Process
Bonsai comes in many forms. When you decide to grow Bonsai, you will need to decide which type and species you wish to own as well as exactly what you'll need to give it the proper care. That is why purchasing the right Bonsai tools is a very important part of this overall process and should, therefore, receive the appropriate attention.
Although it is not necessary to buy a special tool stock for growing your own Bonsai, you will need some basic tools to ensure it is done correctly. As your interest in growing Bonsai grows, so will your collection of Bonsai tools. This, however, will progress naturally so you don't have to worry about purchasing every possible tool you may need all at once.
When choosing your tools, keep in mind that crafting beautiful Bonsai is both a science and an art. The tools you purchase will serve to help you mold your Bonsai to fit your particular vision. Over the years, a multitude of tools have been produced specifically for growing Bonsai. A majority of these tools can be purchased via the Internet, so you should have no trouble finding them. You can also buy them at your local nursery or gardening center.
Many Bonsai tools are designed with specific functions in mind. Those you need will depend on exactly what you wish to do. Once you have become more comfortable with shaping, training and pruning your trees, you may want to consider adding tools to your collection that perform more specific tasks. The tools you need will depend on the type of Bonsai work you plan to do. For example, it takes fewer tools to prune and repot an existing Bonsai tree than it would to create a Bonsai tree from a trunk harvested from another plant.
Bonsai tools are often sold separately, but starter kits do exist that will include what you'll need to begin the Bonsai growing process. Keep in mind you do get what you pay for, so don't be afraid to make a worthwhile investment by selecting tools that are a bit more expensive than others as they will last a long time.
A beginner's kit will usually include the following items: Bonsai wire cutters, Bonsai trimming shears, a concave branch cutter, a Spherical Knob Cutter, bug trimming shears and a root hook. Beginning your new hobby with the right tools will not only make the process easier, but will also make it more enjoyable all around.

The ballpark accross the street from our house, on the corner of Helen Street and Noeske Street, does not get used much at all anymore. Maybe it could be turned into a neighborhood garden. It could be sectioned off into garden sized plots and then neighborhood families could buy a plot for a few bucks per year and then grow veggies or flowers of their choice in their garden space. Since our small city lots are not very condusive to vegetable gardens, this would be great for many of us.
Thank You,
Jennifer C
I received one of them and it still looks great 3 years later. About once every six months I take it out and clean out the containerand rinse the roots. Do not allow the roots to dry in the air. I like getting a wet paper towel and wrapping the bottom of the bamboo to keep the roots moist. They are fairly sturdy and if you rip or break the roots they should be fine. I will also add a little bit of plant food. Just enough to give the plant a boost. I noticed that it helps it grown and get a few more leaves. Also as leaves die remember to remove them. Just gently pull them off and dispose of them. Good luck!

Tests of wheatgrass grown naturally and unnaturally date back 75 years. This video shows obvious visual differences. Wheatgrass can be grown at home with or without soil. Climate, not soil, is the main point of the video. A natural climate is for any food. For example, if you live in Kansas, it is possible to grow oranges in a green house during the cold of winter, but oranges grown outdoors in Florida look healthier, taste better, and provide more nutrition
